Music Program Ends Season with Multiple Concerts in April

ALBANY, N.Y. (April 11, 2024) — The Music Program of the Department of Music and Theatre closes out the season with 9 more concerts this month. All performances will take place at the UAlbany Performing Arts Center.

No tickets or reservations are required for concerts listed as free. Concerts with admission are $5 in advance or $10 on the day of the show, and available online at UAlbany Performing Arts Center’s site.

Showcase Concert

Friday, 7:30 p.m. Admission charged

Vocal students complete their study of the operatic and oratorio repertoire with this staged production. The program, “An Evening at the Opera,” will include arias, duets and trios from the opera world’s favorite works.

Youth Movements Festival

Saturday, 6 p.m. and Sunday, 3 p.m. Admission charged

Saturday’s concert will feature musicians of all ages from around the Capital Region. On Sunday, pianist Duncan Cumming and violinist Hilary Cumming team with the School of the Albany Berkshire Ballet for their fourth collaboration.

The Choral Hour

Saturday, April 20, 3 p.m. Admission charged

The UAlbany Chamber Singers and Community Chorale perform a concert with the theme Something Beyond: Songs of Hope and Justice. The program will include songs representing the African and African American tradition, LGBTQ communities, Indigenous North American population and those that focus on the triumph of the human spirit along with several songs from the Mozart Requiem.

UAlbany Jazz Band

Monday, April 22, 8 p.m. Admission charged

Directed by Keith Pray, this student and community ensemble presents a concert featuring classic and contemporary jazz. The program will include works by Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, Red Baraat, Tito Puente and more.

Student Recital

Wednesday, April 24, 6 p.m. Free

A host of performers showcase their vocal and instrumental talents as part of their departmental studies.

Senior Recital

Friday, April 26, 7:30 p.m. Free

Tenor Andrew Calvacca performs with accompaniment by pianist Trevor Kahlbaugh.

UAlbany Symphony Orchestra

Sunday, April 28, 3 p.m. Admission charged

With conductor Christopher David Neubert, the orchestra will perform two Tchaikovsky works: Symphony No. 4 and Andante Cantabile for Strings. As special guests, the UAlbany Chamber Music Ensembles, directed by Hilary Cumming, will open the concert performing works by Dvorak, Krieger and Brahms.

Sound of the Trumpets, Roar of the Drums

Monday, April 29, 7 p.m. Admission charged

The UAlbany Concert Band and UAlbany Percussion Ensemble present a shared program.
