UAlbany Faculty and Staff Honored With Chancellor’s Awards

ALBANY, N.Y. (May 30, 2023)—President Hávidan Rodríguez announced UAlbany’s winners of the 2022-2023 SUNY Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence.

The awards are system-level honors designed to recognize consistently superior professional achievement and encourage the ongoing pursuit of excellence. These awards underscore SUNY’s commitment to sustaining intellectual vibrancy, advancing the boundaries of knowledge, providing the highest quality of instruction and service, and serving the public good. There are six categories: teaching; research, scholarship and creative activities; professional service; librarianship; faculty service; and classified service.

The awardees are SUNY’s community role models in their respective areas, and each receives a letter and certificate signed by the chancellor, and a commemorative medallion. UAlbany’s 2022-2023 recipients of the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in the respective categories are:

Excellence in Teaching:

  • Mark Hughes, Department of Accounting and Law, School of Business
  • Maeve Kane, Department of History, College of Arts and Sciences

Excellence in Research and Creative Activities:

  • Yiming Ying, Department of Mathematics & Statistics, College of Arts & Sciences
  • Mathias Vuille, Department of Atmospheric Sciences, College of Arts & Sciences
  • Rabi Ann Musah, Department of Chemistry, College of Arts & Sciences

Excellence in Professional Service:

  • Aaron McCloskey, Human Resources Management, Division of Finance & Administration
  • Brian Stephenson, Office of the Dean, College of Arts and Sciences

Excellence in Librarianship:

  • Gregory Wiedeman, University Libraries, Division of Academic Affairs

Excellence in Faculty Service:

  • Karin Reinhold, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, College of Arts & Sciences
  • Sheila Curran Bernard, Department of History, College of Arts & Sciences

Excellence in Classified Service:

  • Erik Dubb, Facilities Management/Physical Plant, Division of Finance & Administration

Reception planned

On Friday, Sept. 15 at 3 p.m. there will be a reception in the University Art Museum to honor the 2023 awardees as well as awardees from 2020-2021 and 2021-2022, who missed having receptions due to pandemic restrictions.
