ALBANY, N.Y. (March 4, 2021) – The calendar has flipped to March, which is a sure sign that the spring sports season is underway at UAlbany. But this year there are a few special additions to the season schedule.

UAlbany has committed to having student athletes for all spring and fall sports compete during the Spring 2021 season. This means that field hockey, football, soccer, golf, women’s volleyball and cross country are joining traditional spring sports such as baseball, softball, track & field and lacrosse in competing this season.

In fact, freshman Katie Pascale (women’s lacrosse), and graduate students Jakob Patterson and Liam Donnelly (men’s lacrosse) have already been honored for their on-field performance following early season victories. Pascale was named the America East Rookie of the Week in women’s lacrosse following victories over St. Bonaventure and Colgate. Patterson took home Offensive Player of the Week honors while Donnelly, the team’s goalie, was named Defensive Player of the Week following the team’s season-opening victory over Colgate. Donnelly earned a second Defensive Player of the Week award for his performance in a 16-6 victory over Hartford on March 6.

The football team also began its quest to return to the FCS Playoffs when it faced New Hampshire on March 5, earning a 24-20 victory. The team next travels to Maine on Saturday for a noon matchup.

The Great Danes Field Hockey team starts its season Tuesday when it travels to Fairfield for a nonleague contest. The game is set to start at 3 p.m.
