ALBANY, N.Y. (Feb. 9, 2021) — Most Spring and Summer 2021 education abroad programs worldwide have been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the desire to study abroad continues.

While there are no definite answers on when education abroad programming will resume, now is the time to start planning for your global future.

Undergraduate students, particularly freshmen and sophomores, still have time to take advantage of education abroad participation prior to graduation.

“All SUNY Summer 2021 education abroad programming is suspended and at this time, since we don’t know when education abroad programs will resume, students cannot begin the application process. Students can, however, schedule an appointment to meet virtually with a member of our dedicated Education Abroad team to begin to plan and research their options,” said Director of Education Abroad Renee DeCelle in the Center for International Education and Global Strategy.

Join the Education Abroad team for the following virtual events and activities throughout the Spring 2021 semester.

  • Today - International Trivia, Kahoot Style, 7 p.m. Join Education Abroad for a virtual game night, where we will play an international version of the popular game, Kahoot.
  • March 1 - International Jeopardy Night, 6 p.m. Do you like Jeopardy? Join Education Abroad for a fun virtual game night and test your knowledge of all things international.
  • March 18 - Virtual Education Abroad Fair, 12-3 p.m. Join us for the Spring 2021 Education Abroad Fair, where you can learn more about study abroad and speak with the UAlbany education abroad program coordinators. (Link forthcoming.)

  • April 8: When Study Abroad Studied Abroad, 1 p.m. The UAlbany Education Abroad staff will share their study abroad experiences through storytelling.

The Education Abroad office provides accessible and inclusive global learning programs, experiences and curricula intended to equip students with the life-long knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to be responsive global citizens in an ever-changing world.

“We are cautiously hopeful for the relaunch of education abroad programming and look forward to reemergence, rebuilding and renewal,” DeCelle said.

Due to uncertainty about when programs will resume and the continually changing global conditions, students cannot apply for Fall 2021 (or any future term) UAlbany education abroad programs at this time.

Students may schedule a virtual advising appointment with an education abroad advisor using MyUAlbany.
