Two Great Danes Signed to NFL Practice Squads

UAlbany alums Jarren Williams, left, and Juwan Green have been signed to the N.Y. Giants and Atlanta Falcons practice squads for the 2020 season.

Two former UAlbany football players, Juwan Green and Jarren Williams, have been signed to NFL practice squads. Green remains in the Atlanta Falcons organization and Williams joins the New York Giants.

Alongside former teammate Eli Mencer, who signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Seattle Seahawks, the Great Danes now boast 18 players who signed NFL contracts.

Green, a wide receiver, was signed by the Falcons as an undrafted free agent following the 2020 NFL Draft. Williams, a defensive back, signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent. He later signed with the New York Giants for training camp.

The New York Giants have a unique connection with university, having held training camp on UAlbany's campus from 1996 through 2012. Williams is the first Great Dane signed by the Giants since Rashad Barksdale in 2008.

The Falcons went 7-9 in 2019 and dropped their 2020 season opener against the Seahawks. The Giants went 4-12 a year ago and opened their season on Monday with a 26-16 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
