University at Albany

Community Outreach

The Office of Sustainability participates in UAlbany’s commitment to community engagement. Specifically, we seek to increase awareness by reaching out to the surrounding community and other institutions to develop events and programs related to environmental issues. For a full list of the Universities’ other initiatives in this area, please visit UAlbany's Community Connections page.

Our office is always receptive in participating in events and activities hosted by other organizations. We have made presentations and provided informational materials at various organizations including: Doane Stuart, Girls Inc., Woestina Elementary, Evening Branch of the Women's Alliance (EBWA), Albany Stratton VA Hospital, and the Boys and Girls Club of Albany.

Our groups and the office have made donations to organizations such as the Albany Pine Bush Preserve, Northeast Regional Food Bank, The City Mission, USCRI, First Lutheran Church of Albany, Peppertree Animal Rescue, and Goodwill Stores.

Additionally, the Director has made presentations and served as a panelist at national and regional conferences including those for the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), the New York State Association for Reduction, Reuse and Recycling (NYSAR3) and the Northeast Campus Sustainability Consortium (NECSC). The Director also served as a discussant at the UAlbany's School of Business Corporate Social Responsibility Conference in 2009. Currently, the Director serves on the city of Albany's Sustainability Advisory Board for their Strategic Plan for and provides technical assistance on their Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Study.
