Sean Maguire
About

Sean Maguire is a certified professional planner and economic developer with more than 20 years of experience in the public and private sectors, from small community-based organizations to local and state governments. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography and Urban Studies, a Master of Regional Planning degree in Housing, Community, and Economic Development, and a Master of Public Administration degree in Public Sector Management from the University at Albany. Sean is currently the vice president of Workforce Development and Community Education at SUNY Schenectady, where he oversees the college’s portfolio of continuing education courses, including professional and career development courses, business education and training, community education/personal enrichment offerings, health care training, online offerings, and the START-UP NY program.

Sean is also the principal/owner of Essem Strategies, LLC — a consulting firm focused on providing economic development and planning services to disaster-impacted communities. Previously, he served as the director of Economic Development and Regional Analytics programs at the Capital District Regional Planning Commission; a regional project manager at the New York State Department of State; and a senior economic development planner at the Albany County Department of Economic Development, Conservation, and Planning. He is also a graduate of the University of Oklahoma’s Economic Development Institute and the Capital Region Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Tech Valley. Sean is among the 2017 Albany Business Review’s “40 Under 40” and a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners. He is a Certified Economic Developer with the International Economic Development Council.
