Events & Observances

May

While May might not quite be the official start of summer, it is a fun-filled month full of big events such as the UAlbany 2023 Commencement. Plan ahead by checking out this list of holidays and observances and be sure to mark the official holidays and unofficial national days of celebration on your calendar.

Asian Pacific American Heritage Month is a celebration of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States encompassing all of the Asian continent and the Pacific islands of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia.  May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869.  The majority of the workers who laid the tracks were Chinese immigrants.  UAlbany celebrates AAPI Faculty and Research.
