Matt Michienzie

Matt Michienzie is a filmmaker, musician, and songwriter whose work navigates across mediums with a storytelling focus on American life, peace and justice, and old-time folk and Americana music.

In 2017, Matt received his BA from Boston College with a focus on film studies. He received the Jacques Salmonowitz Grant for Moral Courage and produced his thesis documentary "Unwitnessed and Untold", a lesser-known story of persecuted Bible Students at the hands of the Nazi regime.

After college, he went on to receive his MFA from University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts, in Los Angeles, with a focus in producing. While living in Los Angeles for 9 years, Matt produced numerous films, fashion commercials, shorts and songs, all while he maintained steady growth as an up-and-coming bluegrass music performer. As a producer, he has experience working on the backlots of Warner Brothers, Paramount, Sony Pictures, and more. As a director, his debut short film, Tread on These, starring John Ennis (HBO's Mr. Show, Zodiac, etc) premiered at the Austin Comedy Short Film Festival in 2018. 

In 2019, he produced the USC student film The Bee, a superhero, stunt and action film, which screened at various prominent short festivals such as Comic Con San Diego and LA Shorts. As a gigging musician and performing artist, Matt has performed on stage at several festivals around the country and even across the pond. His band, Matt Michienzie Band, won the 2023 Topanga Banjo and Fiddle Festival, as well as the Huck Finn Jubilee Bluegrass Festival. 

He is currently based in New York's Capital Region, where he writes songs, performs and teaches Film (Introduction to Film Studies, From Script to Screen).
