When you’re deciding where to spend the next four years, it’s natural to think beyond graduation. You want to know whether your degree will prepare you for a career, graduate school or whatever comes next.
For prospective students and their families, career outcomes are an important part of the college decision. Here’s what UAlbany’s latest outcomes data shows, how to interpret the numbers and how the University helps Great Danes prepare for life after college.
What is UAlbany's job placement rate?
Each year, UAlbany’s Office of Institutional Research, Planning and Effectiveness; Office of Student Affairs Assessment and Planning; and Office of Career and Professional Development survey recent graduates through the First Destination Survey.
For the Class of 2024-2025, 94% of graduates with available outcomes data were either employed or continuing their education in graduate school as of November 2025, up from 92% the year before. Because that figure includes continued education, it is broader than a traditional job placement rate.
Looking specifically at employment, 69.7% of survey respondents reported that they were working or had accepted a position. Among employed respondents, 90% worked in New York state.
The 94% figure includes direct survey responses along with supplemental data from the National Student Clearinghouse and LinkedIn through a partnership with LiveAlumni. Together, these sources provide UAlbany with some form of outcomes data for roughly 55% of the graduating class, offering a more complete picture than survey responses alone.
What UAlbany's Job Placement Rate Means for Students
Outcomes data gives you a glimpse of what graduates are doing after they leave campus. It includes both employment and continued education because success after college can take several forms.
Some graduates head straight into their first full-time role. Others pursue a master’s degree, doctorate or professional program before beginning their careers. Many eventually do both.
When comparing colleges, look closely at how each institution defines its numbers. One school may count only employed graduates, while another may combine employment and continued education. Survey response rates and data collection methods can also vary, so the context behind the percentage matters.
Why UAlbany Is a Strong Choice for Career-Minded Students
While career outcomes are an important part of the college decision, they aren’t the only way to measure the value of a degree.
UAlbany graduates also reported positive views of their experience. In the latest survey:
- 76.8% agreed that their UAlbany education was worth the cost.
- 84.8% said they would recommend the University to a friend or family member.
- 73.1% felt UAlbany prepared them for life outside college.
Those results reflect more than what happens during a student’s final semester. Career and Professional Development, academic advisors and faculty members help students connect what they learn in class with their goals after graduation.
Do UAlbany job placement rates vary by major?
Yes. Outcomes naturally vary by major and by school or college.
Some fields lead more directly into full-time employment after graduation. Others prepare students for law school, medical school, research or other paths that involve additional education first.
If you’re considering a specific program, UAlbany publishes outcomes data that can be sorted by school, college and major. Data is available for graduating classes going back to 2018, giving you a closer look at where UAlbany alumni in your intended field landed after graduation.
