The State University of New York (SUNY) showcased its cutting-edge research and innovation during the 2026 SUNY Research Expo, held at the Legislative Office Building in Albany on March 18. The event brought together faculty, students and state leaders to highlight the breadth and impact of research taking place across the SUNY system.

The Expo featured representatives from 10 SUNY campuses, including the University at Albany, Binghamton University, University at Buffalo, and Stony Brook University, among others. Research presentations spanned critical fields such as artificial intelligence, environmental science, agriculture and medical research, demonstrating SUNY’s role in addressing real-world challenges and advancing public good.

Projects highlighted at the Expo illustrated the diversity and impact of SUNY research. At UAlbany, researchers demonstrated innovative uses of virtual reality to support rehabilitation patients, while other campuses showcased advancements in AI-driven robotics, biotechnology, and tools for detecting AI-generated media.

In addition, UAlbany researchers presented an AI-powered tool designed to support first responders and volunteers assisting individuals in distress, reflecting SUNY’s growing focus on leveraging technology to address mental health and emergency response challenges.

The SUNY Research Expo serves as a powerful reminder of the system’s leadership in innovation and its commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, discovery, and community impact.
