An unflinching modern-day interpretation of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter. Through the lens of Hester, a destitute single mother of five, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks examines the moralism, hypocrisy, and inequality of the oft sought and rarely attained American Dream. Ms. Parks’ penchant for biting humor, bold theatricality, and prodigious heart are on full display in this piece. Staged by Visiting Assistant Professor of Directing Shaun Patrick Tubbs, director of recent UAlbany productions of The Rocky Horror Show and The Glass Menagerie.
