Drs. Schiller and Mansor

Dr. Azlin Norhaini Mansor returned to the University at Albany April 12, 2019 to give a presentation on Principal Ethical Leadership, Trust in Leader and Teacher Work Engagement in Malaysia. She shared information on the complex multi-ethnic Malaysian educational system and results from her current research on relationships between principals’ ethical practices and the trust teachers’ have in their leaders.

A double alumna of the University, Dr. Mansor received her B.Sc. in Biology (1985) and her M.Ed. in Curriculum Planning and Development (1987). She currently serves as Senior Lecturer and Assistant Dean for Students and Alumni Affairs with the Center of Educational Leadership and Policy, at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), where she earned her Ph.D. in Educational Administration. Prior to coming to the University at Albany, Dr. Mansor was a schoolteacher from 1987-1997. She served as Assistant Director at the Malaysia Ministry of Education 1997-2010 and worked for Matriculation College 2010-2012.

In 2016, Dr. Mansor visited the University at Albany and met with Dr. Kevin Kinser, then chair of the Department of Education Administration and Policy Studies. In 2018, she returned to UAlbany to visit with Dr. Jason Lane and held a sharing session on the Malaysian education system and the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMMS) findings.

Dr. Mansor returned to the University at Albany this month, to share her research findings on ethical school leadership and trust in leaders. Her study takes a deeper look at the personal characteristics, motivations, and leadership styles of principals, and the overall health of the organization as it relates to teacher engagement and empowerment. As a result of her visit, Dr. Mansor wishes to do a comparative research study on ethical school leadership Malaysia vs New York on the aforementioned topic, working closely with Dr. Kathryn Schiller, with hopes of publishing an article in the near future.
