About

Maria Haji-Georgi is visiting assistant professor in the Division of Special Education in the Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology. She joined the University at Albany faculty in 2023. Prior to earning her PhD in Educational Psychology, Dr. Haji-Georgi studied special education and inclusion and worked as a classroom teacher in North and South America. Dr. Haji-Georgi has taught courses in Educational Psychology and Special Education and supervises teacher candidates during their student teaching and internship experiences. Her research is equity-centered and focuses on teachers’ social-emotional competencies, teacher burnout, teacher-student relationships, and their measurement across diverse learners and environments. Through her research, Dr. Haji-Georgi aims to understand the relationships between these variables and how they impact student outcomes, particularly in environments with learners who have been marginalized, including those with social, emotional, or behavioral difficulties.
