Are you currently enrolled as a full time student at the University at Albany?
Are you currently in good standing at the University at Albany (No account holds, academic probation, or disciplinary action from the university)?
Please discuss in a separate, typed, 1,000 word essay the following:
Choose a Black (African American, African or someone from the African Diaspora) poet, singer/songwriter or musician and write a fan letter to her/him that demonstrates not only your admiration, but also how his/her opinion and work represents something positive about Black life and culture. The letter must incorporate cultural analysis and commentary on the artistic products of these individuals – not on the individual’s life, looks, or physical appeal. You should clearly and specifically address how the artist’s body of work (or a specific work) contributes to the advancement and uplift of Black people and culture. Please note that the essay will be assessed on how well you articulate and argue for the strength and value of the works of the chosen artist, the critical cultural analysis deployed, and how well you execute college-level writing.
