Presidential Award for Undergraduate Research

The Presidential Award for Undergraduate Research was established to encourage undergraduate research and scholarship and to recognize the high quality of work being conducted by undergraduate students at the University at Albany. Students cannot apply for this award directly; eligible students are nominated by their faculty mentor/advisor, and finalists are selected by the respective college or school.

ELIGIBILITY FOR 2022-2023 Presidential Award for Undergraduate Research

Nominees must be juniors or seniors who have demonstrated outstanding scholastic ability and who are enrolled full time. To be eligible, students must have made considerable progress on a paper or project in their major, which originated in an upper-level course, independent study, or honors program under the direction of a UAlbany faculty member. The paper or project must have been initiated after May 15, 2022 and should be finished or represent a work in progress suitable for presentation by May 12, 2023

NOMINATION PROCESS:

Note - nominations will only be accepted from faculty members. Students interested in being nominated should contact their supervising faculty member for more information. 

The Center for Undergraduate Research and Creative Engagement (CURCE) sends a call for nominations directly to the Dean of each School and College. This call includes the number of awards available for their school or college. The Dean (or their designee) is responsible for disseminating the information, including the direct link to this nomination form, to their department chairs and faculty.

Faculty members complete the online nomination form and must submit all information for the students no later than Friday, February 24, 2023. The nomination form will become inactive and unavailable after 11:59 PM on this date.

CURCE will provide the nominations received for their school or college to the Dean for review. The Dean, their designee, and/or committee within the school or college will make the final selection of the award recipients. The names of final selection of award winners must be sent to CURCE by close of business (5:00 PM) on Friday, March 17, 2023..

Student Recipients of the Presidential Award for Undergraduate Research are expected to present their project for the Presidential Award for Undergraduate Research at the inaugural UAlbany Showcase Day on Thursday, April 27, 2023. Students will be notified by CURCE of this expectation and may present their work during a department or school/college presentation session during Showcase Day.

By accepting the award, the recipient gives permission to the University to publish the final report or an abstract of the report.
