Undergraduate Research Opportunities in Health/Health Care
Center for Health Workforce Studies (CHWS)
Our work assists health, professional, and educational organizations, policy makers, planners, and other stakeholders to understand issues related to the supply, demand, distribution, and use of health workers. The research conducted by CHWS supports and promotes health workforce planning and policymaking at local, regional, state, and national levels. CHWS is 1 of 7 health workforce research centers in the US, and the only HRSA-sponsored center with a unique focus on the oral health workforce.
Center for Human Services Research
CHSR areas of inquiry cover a wide range of topics including education and training, family support, health care and nutrition, intimate partner violence, and youth development and juvenile justice. Characteristic of all these studies is CHSR’s focus on rigorous methods, strong stakeholder involvement, and the dissemination of timely, accurate and non-partisan information to guide best practices in service delivery.
Center for the Elimination of Minority Health Disparities
CEMHD is a collaborative effort focusing on minority health disparities in the smaller cities and towns of New York. We work toward eliminating health disparities by developing capacity in faculty at the University at Albany and partnering with community groups to identify their health concerns and the sources of disparities, and then plan, implement and test strategies to alleviate them. CEMHD is a partnership among community groups, hospitals, and state and county health departments.
National Center for Excellence in Homeless Services
Through a consortium of social work schools, we strengthen homeless services by creating partnerships, supporting leaders, and sharing excellence. Our approach is informed by the Restorative Integral Support (RIS) model, which synthesizes research on adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), resilience, and recovery into a holistic, multi-system method that supports consumers and staff while strengthening systems within communities.
