About

Introduction

Greg Pogarsky joined the faculty of the School of Criminal Justice in August 2001. He is an attorney and formerly practiced as a criminal public defender for the state of New Jersey. Thereafter in 1998, he received a Ph.D. in Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University.

Professor Pogarsky's research focuses on offender decision-making, deterrence, and exploring the applicability of insights from Behavioral economic and psychological research to criminal behavior. He is currently working on several projects aimed at demonstrating predictable ways in which criminal decision-making deviates from purely rational norms. The goal is to use this empirical evidence to contribute to more refined and descriptively accurate theories of crime decision-making and criminal deterrence.
