ALBANY, N.Y. (April 1, 2021) — Continued mask wearing, physical distancing and hand hygiene are among the keys to successfully re-opening the country by the Fourth of July, according to School of Public Health Dean David Holtgrave and Emory University Professor Ronald Valdiserri.

The two detailed a six-step plan for a post-COVID-19 reopening in an opinion piece published in The Hill.

The piece, “How to open a country in 90 days — a six-step plan to Fourth of July cookouts,” says that vaccinating 90 percent of the adult population and working to eliminate the disparities that keep certain populations from accessing health care also are necessary goals.
