CEHC Family Receives Initiatives for Women (IFW) Grants

Honorees of UAlbany's 2022 Initiatives for Women (IFW) Annual Summer Celebration stand in ETEC

Four members of the College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity (CEHC) family were recently recognized at the University at Albany’s 2022 Initiatives for Women (IFW) Annual Summer Celebration.

IFW Program Chair, Carol Anne Germain, who also serves as an associate teaching professor and chair of the Information Science and Technology Department at CEHC, emceed the time-honored event at ETEC.

CEHC Senior Staff Member, Lisa Giovannangelo; Associate Professor, Xiaojun (Jenny) Yuan; Information Science PhD candidate, Yueqi Li; and Informatics undergraduate student and rising sophomore, Taylor Pierce, were honored among 30 University recipients and received the following:

  • Lisa Giovannangelo: Judy L. Genshaft Award (: $1,000) for promotional materials for the State of Grace conference
  • Xiaojun (Jenny) Yuan: CEHC JEDI Award ($350) to create and print posters and other materials to promote JEDI, as well as the IFW Endowment Award ($600) for keynote speakers and guest speakers for the Human Behavior, Technology and Disaster conference
  • Yueqi Li: Karen R. Hitchcock New Frontiers Fund Award ($1,500)
  • Taylor Pierce: The Women and Technology Award ($750)

At the event, the IFW program celebrated nearly three decades of honoring the accomplishments of hundreds of outstanding UAlbany recipients. Funding is provided by generous donors and the event was underwritten by University Auxiliary Services (UAS).
