About

Emily Klein is a visiting assistant professor in the Emergency Management and Homeland Security Department at the University at Albany. She earned her PhD and Master of Science in Cognitive Science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Prior to her appointment at the University at Albany, she worked in grant writing and graphic design, using skills in data analytics, mapping, and communication to develop plans that benefit low- and moderate-income people to meet urgent community development needs.

Dr. Klein's research focuses on language, conspiracy theories, and online extremism. She has worked on projects examining knowledge induction of complex events from big data, and corpus development methodologies for natural language understanding. Her most recent work examines linguistic patterns on subreddits and alt-tech social networking sites.
