About the Speaker:
Dr. Tesoriero is currently the Director for the Center of Program Development, Implementation, Research and Evaluation (CPDIRE) at the Health Department’s AIDS Institute. In this capacity he oversees research and evaluation activities at the AIDS Institute, leads the development and implementation of new programming, directs national quality improvement and training initiatives, and helps to secure new grant opportunities. Prior to this position, Dr. Tesoriero was the Director of the Division of HIV/STD Epidemiology, Evaluation and Partner Services. In that capacity he oversaw HIV and STD surveillance and partner services field work for NYS. He has also served as the Director of HIV/STD/HCV Prevention, where he oversaw statewide initiatives dedicated to HIV testing and linkage to care, condom promotion and distribution, behavioral interventions for HIV positive and high-risk individuals, LGBT health, drug user health including syringe access and overdose prevention, and various policy initiatives designed to remove barriers to effective HIV programming.
Learning objectives
By the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
1) Understand the extent to which Persons Living with Diagnosed HIV (PLWDH) in NYS have been diagnosed with COVID-19 through the summer of 2020
2) Appreciate the differential impact of COVID-19 on PLWDH regarding the following COVID outcomes: diagnoses, hospitalizations and in-hospital deaths
3) Understand the relationship between demographic, transmission risk, CD4 and viral load factors and COVID-19 outcomes within the PLWDH population of NYS
4) Recognize the additional research needed to better understand the intersection of HIV and COVID-19.
