Federal Relations Advisor

Al Massoni is an experienced legislative professional and has provided the University at Albany with part-time and, more recently, full-time federal government relations services for a decade. During this period, he secured over $6 million in congressional earmarks and worked with the University’s PIs supporting competitive grant opportunities as well as building relationships with federal agencies. Al previously provided federal government relations services for Rice University, Old Dominion University, Stetson University, the University of Nevada, Stevenson University and a number of non-profit private colleges. The programmatic and earmark funds that he was responsible for totaled over $77 million.

Al’s experiences prior to academic representation included work for U.S. governments including the City of Houston, Texas, Knoxville Metro, Myrtle Beach, SC, the States of Montana, Nebraska, Wyoming, North Dakota, and South Dakota as an Economic Development Region. He has held important executive positions with private corporations and professional associations having served as Executive Vice President of an international management consulting firm with over $35 million in project billings, Executive Director of the American Institute of Planners and Government Relations Director for the National Association of Counties. Additionally, he was co-director of the White House Conference on Balanced Growth and Economic Development during President Carter’s Administration.

Al earned an M.P.A. from American University, a Master’s Fellowship in the School of Planning at Harvard University and a B.A. in Political Science from California State University.
