Give and Go
May 2011. This year's collection yielded the largest number of donations in the program's history. Great job!

Trip to Professor Kleppel's farm
April 2011. Professor Gary Kleppel is one of the area's leading experts on sustainable farming. Members of the sustainability council were given a private tour of his farm and made their own bread in his wood fired oven.

Go Green Night
April 2011. The Office of Environmental Sustainability helped organize and run a "Go Green" Night at Woestina Elementary.

Trip to the Albany Pine Bush Discovery Center
April 2011. Our annual hike in the nearby Pine Bush and the students presented the proceeds from the green grams sale to the Discovery Center.

Clean-Up Day
April 2011. Members of the sustainability council took part in getting the campus ready for graduation.

Spring Awakening
April 2011. This year's Earth Day celebration was combined with the annual EAP wellness fair to create a campus wide event. Exhibitors, student displays, prizes, a farmer's market and the clothing exchange were all part of the huge event.

Waste Audit
March 2011. Members of the sustainability council went through our trash to see what was hidden inside. Also look for "What's in your Trash" at the UAlbany TV video page.

Trip to the County Waste Recycling Facility
March 2011. The sustainability coordinators took a tour of the single stream recycling facility in Albany. Check out the photo tour of the site.

Recyclemania Bin Shoot
Spring 2011. Check out scenes from our bins shoots. Recycle and win prizes and the same time!

UAlbany Day Photos
February 2011. See the Green Scene team in action during UAlbany day. Activities included: turning your trash to treasure, riding the energy bike (see how much work it takes to power a light bulb) and recycling trivia.

Bottle Return Machine Promotion Photos
January 2011. The new bottle return machine arrived and set up in the first floor of the campus center. The machine is currently located in the alcove between Wendy's and Dreidel's. A kick off event occured with prizes for correctly answering recycling trivia. Check out the photos at our facebook page too. Keyword: UAlbany Green Scene.


Hybrid Buses
December 2010. Our first hybrids arrived! These will go into action at the beginning of the spring semester. Three more are expecting for the following fall.

Goby Awards
October 2010. UAlbany was awarded the Building Sustainable Communities "Get on Board " (GOBY) award from the Stakeholder's Inc. Accepting on behalf of the University are Hillary Closs, Kelsey O'Brien and Tina Daniels.

Generation Organic
Ocotober 2010. Generation Organic Bus tour, a bus that runs on vegetable oil, rolled through Albany on their nationwide tour. This mission is to bring awareness about organic farming and support young farmers. The bus was sponsored by Stoneyfield Yogurt.

Give and Go
May 2010. Our move out program adopted a new name: the Give and Go. But we are still in the business of collecting gently used but unwanted items from the students and donating them to local charities.

East Garden
April 2010. The East Garden is one of the more beautiful spots when the flowers are in bloom. But this show is only on display between mid and late April.

Residential Life
April 2010. Res Life presented their annual awards. Council chairs Bill Valleau and Karina Cuenca won silver in the displaying life skills category for their program “Spring into Wellness Fair”.  Chair Brad Machado won gold in the work to overcome challenges category for his program “Facing your Worst Fears” .

The awards for contributing to a sustainable environment went to: Jessica Wood, bronze for “Tape it Up”, Zhong Linbin, silver for “-78 degrees Celsius” and Racquel Eustache, gold for “Green House on the Apartments”.

Veggie Oil Bus
April 2010. A bus run on discarded vegetable oil made a stop at UAlbany. This project was sponsored by the National Outdoor Leadership School.

Green Apartments
March 2010. Raquel Eustache hosted an open house at her apartment which demonstrated all the ways to "go green" while living on Empire Commons.



Destination Green
September 2009. Sustainable Transportation Day. UAlbany President Philip and SUNY Chancellor Zimpher enjoy a ride on bikes from our bike share program. The day included information tables on alternative transportation offerings and alternative vehicles on display.

Electronics Recycling
October 2009. Each year the University sponsors an electronics collection event. Save your old electronics and bring them to us to get recycled!

Change A Light
Fall 2009. Hundreds of light bulbs were purchased thanks to a grant from National Grid. These were distributed to students living in the residence halls.

Community Day
Fall 2009. The Green Scene was in action providing information on how to live sustainably and arts and craft using discarded items.

Dump and Run
May 2009. This program takes place when the students move out of the residential halls. Items that the students no longer want but still have a useful life are collected and donated to local charities. Check out our first year in May 2008.

National Teach In
February 2009. A panel discussion on climate change and its implications took place on campus. Professors from UAlbany and representatives from NYPIRG took part.

Recyclemania Champion
Spring 2009. Indian Quad is crowned recyclemania champion for the second straight year! Residents celebrate with a special dinner and a chocolate fountain as a reward. Brian Stephenson, Resident Hall Director, accepts the trophy on Indian Quad's behalf.
