Minority Health Task Forces

About CEMHD’s Minority Health Task Forces

The Center for the Elimination of Minority Health Disparities (CEMHD) seems to improve lines of communication about health and healthcare among UAlbany faculty, local minority communities and health care providers.

Our Minority Health Task Forces are key in engagement between the University and local communities. Currently, the Center supports one task force in Albany.

Albany Minority Health Task Force

The Albany Minority Health Task Force has been dedicated to fostering community-researcher partnerships to address health disparities since its creation in 2005.

The task force is mostly focused on the needs of the Black/African American community and low-income families in Albany, with a goal of strengthening these communities’ capacity to achieve health and well-being.

Together, task force members work to:

  • Identify causes and possible solutions for minority health disparities from the perspective of communities of color
  • Encourage community-engaged research projects with methods that are scientifically rigorous, culturally appropriate and beneficial to the involved communities
  • Help disseminate that research to the involved communities
About the Albany Minority Health Task Force Members

Our members are local professionals and community leaders concerned about the health status of Capital Region communities of color. The Albany Minority Health Task Force is convened by Greg Owens.

Most members are researchers from UAlbany or affiliated with local governmental and non-governmental organizations dedicated to health and human services.

Note: While Albany Minority Health Task Force is affiliated with CEMHD and UAlbany, the task force’s views do not necessarily represent those of the University. Members represent only themselves, rather than any employers, agencies or institutions with which they are associated.
