Coaching for Leaders and Managers

In today’s fast paced professional environments, leaders and managers at all levels need to further hone their leadership awareness, emotion intelligence, team building, communication and coaching skills. 

This program is for leaders genuinely looking to engage employees, demonstrating clarity, consistency and credibility are foundational for successful professional interactions.

Program Description

In this intensive, four-session academy model, learners will identify their strengths and authentic leadership style, as well as develop strategies for leading within their organization including assessing emotional intelligence, developing effective teams, clarity in communicating and using a coaching approach.

Course Outline  

• Session 1: Leadership Style & Emotional Intelligence
• Session 2: Leading with Strengths using the Gallup CliftonStrengths (StrengthsFinder®) Assessment
• Session 3: Team Building & Communication
• Session 4: Coaching Strategies

What to Expect

This learning format will be cohort-based with a mix of interactive live sessions, short readings and/or videos, and short written reflections. Participants will also discuss strategies with fellow participants in small breakout groups. 

At the end of each learning session, participants will share a discussion post with other learners on how they plan to apply their new skills in the organizational setting. As a final project, they will share either a short communication or coaching plan as their final discussion post.  

Technology Requirements

All learners will use the Brightspace, a digital learning environment, to access course materials and submit any assignments.

Completion Requirements

To earn a Credly badge, participants must

• Complete a Gallup Strengths assessment
• Attend all in-person sessions (or complete make-up assignments)
• Complete all discussion post reflection assignments
• Submit either a personal communication or coaching plan using aspects learned throughout the academy as their final discussion post

Instructors

The program sessions will be facilitated by Dr. Jennifer Miller, certified Gallup Strengths coach; along with Cathy Parker, certified Gallup Strengths coach who will facilitate the CliftonStrengths Assessment session and Dr. Yolanda Caldwell, ICF ACC Coach who will facilitate the Coaching Strategies session.

Registration Process

Pre-registration for Summer 2026 will close on March 27, 2026. 

Pre-registering secures your spot, as space is limited. If you pre-register, you will be sent a link to officially register by May 15, 2026.

Session Dates & Times

The program will meet on UAlbany's Uptown Campus from 9 a.m. to noon on four consecutive Wednesdays: June 3, 10, 17 and 24, 2026.

Registration Fees

• General Fee: $1,000 
• New York State Resident Fee ($200 discount): $800 
• UAlbany Alumni, Student & Staff Fee ($300 discount): $700

Note: All registration fees include the Gallup CliftonStrengths Assessment code for Top 5 Strengths.
