Biography:
Bonnie Steinbock is a dually-appointed professor in the departments of philosophy and health policy. She is author of several books on medical ethics, including Life Before Birth: The Moral and Legal Status of Embryos and Fetuses (Oxford University Press, 1996).  A Fellow of the Hastings Center and a member of the Ethics Committee of the American Society For Reproduction And Medicine (ASRM), her specialization is biomedical ethics, particularly reproduction and genetics. She has served on a number of working groups in the United States and Europe, including a Hastings Center working group on reprogenetics. She has written articles on defining parenthood, moral status, embryonic stem cell research, payment to egg donors, and sex selection. Steinbock received her doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley.
