Empire Innovations Professor JoEllen Welsh in the Cancer Research Center studies nuclear receptors in health and disease. The Welsh lab has particular expertise in studying the role of dietary-derived ligands for nuclear receptors in cancer prevention and therapy. Recent projects have focused on the molecular mechanisms by which vitamin D and its nuclear receptor modulate adiposity, stem cell function and cancer development.

Dr. Welsh recently received funding from the National Cancer Institute to examine the impact of vitamin D and other natural products on hyaluronic acid metabolism and signaling in triple negative breast cancer.
