An Emmy and Peabody Award-winning filmmaker and consultant, Bernard has developed and produced projects for national broadcast, theatrical release, and museum and classroom use. She is the author of Documentary Storytelling (Focal Press 2007, 2003), a bestselling text on story and structure in nonfiction filmmaking, and co-author of Archival Storytelling (Focal Press, 2008), which explores filmmakers' uses of third-party images and music. Bernard has held fellowships at the MacDowell Colony and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.
