Associate Professor Lisa Thompson's research interests include contemporary African American literature, performance, feminist theory and cultural studies. She is the author of Beyond the Black Lady: Sexuality and the New African American Middle Class (University of Illinois Press 2009). Thompson's critically-acclaimed play, Single Black Female, was described as "socially significant and very entertaining" by The New York Times. A native of San Francisco, Thompson has performed her poetry throughout California in venues including the World Stage and UCLA's Center for African American Studies.
