Irene Lurie is a professor in the Department of Public Administration and Policy and a research associate at the Rockefeller Institute of Government in Albany. Trained as an economist, she has studied welfare programs at the federal, state, and local levels. She was co-director of a ten-state study of the implementation of the Family Support Act of 1988, and most recently directed a four-state study of the welfare reform of 1996 that focuses on the behavior of workers at the front lines of the welfare system.
