Lane has written broadly on higher education public policy, administration and globalization. His current work focuseson educational accountability at the state and international levels. Lane has authored four books and more than 20 articles and book chapters.
Lane is an assistant professor of educational administration and policy studies at the University at Albany, where he is also co-leader of the Cross-Border Education Research Team (C-BERT). He also serves as an institutre fellow at UAlbany's Nelson A. Rockefeller Institute of Government. He is secretary for the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) and publisher of www.globalhighered.org.
