Electronic & Information Technology Accessibility

Ensuring Accessibility at UAlbany

The University at Albany is committed to providing an environment that is accessible to a wide and diverse audience.

UAlbany adheres to SUNY’s Electronic and Information Technology (EIT) Accessibility Policy, which recognizes SUNY institutions’ responsibility to assure that individuals with disabilities and individuals who are temporarily disabled have equitable access to electronic information resources.

If you have questions or concerns, please email [email protected].

We encourage the UAlbany campus community, especially those who create electronic content, to review these resources.

Deque University

SUNY has entered into an agreement with Deque University to provide accessibility training across all SUNY campuses. All UAlbany faculty and staff can request free access.

The full curriculum contains over 30 courses that will be valuable to web developers, content editors, and all faculty and staff who create online materials. The courses are online, self-paced, and take from 30 minutes to 6 hours to complete.

Web Content

The University provides web templates that meet many standard accessibility requirements. Site editors need to make sure the content they add to those templates conforms to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Conformance Level AA guidelines.

Anyone who creates content, documents and/or videos that are posted on a UAlbany website should review Web Services’ web accessibility guide

Social Media Content

Each social media platform has different accessibility features and limitations. Check with each individual platform to review their accessibility resources and most up-to-date capabilities.

Any who creates social media content for University-affiliated accounts should review the Office of Communications and Marketing’s social media accessibility guide, which covers universal best practices for social media.

Course Materials

Instructors should ensure that their course materials are accessible to all students, including those with disabilities.

The Center for the Advancement of Teaching, Learning, and Online Education (CATLOE) and Informational Technology Services (ITS) are available to assist instructors.

Get started with CATLOE’s Working with Content: Attending to Accessibility guide. Instructors should also review ITS’s Brightspace resources.

Reasonable Accommodations

Students: Please contact the Disability Access and Inclusion Student Services (DAISS) to request a reasonable accommodation.

Employees: Please review University’s Policy and Procedure to Request a Reasonable Accommodation for Employees
