Employment Opportunities

Vacancy announcements are divided into Civil Service, Professional, Faculty, Promotional Opportunities, Executive Searches, and Other campus-related vacancies.

  • Civil Service Positions (classified): these are New York State Civil Service vacancies usually requiring that an applicant take and pass an appropriate civil service examination to qualify for employment.  These vacancies are for positions represented by CSEA, PEF, NYSCOPBA, PBANYS, and for unrepresented M/C classified positions.

  • Professional Positions (unclassified):  these are unclassified positions that do not require a civil service examination.  These are positions represented by UUP, or unrepresented M/C unclassified positions.

  • UUP Promotional Opportunities: these are professional vacancies open only to current UAlbany employees who meet all of the following criteria (see HR Promotion Policy):

      1. you must be employed at the University at Albany campus.

      2. you must currently be in a UUP professional position (M/C employees are not eligible).

      3. you must currently have a permanent, term, or probationary appointment (temporary employees are not eligible).

      1. Faculty Searches: these are UUP academic positions.

      2. Executive Searches: these are positions at the Dean, VP or Presidential level.

      3. Other Campus-related Vacancies: these are positions on campus through other employers including the Research Foundation.  These are not vacancies for UAlbany, State employment.
