The University Counseling Center is conducting an ongoing health awareness campaign to inform the University community that UAlbany students make healthy choices. Specifically, the campaign (referred to as the Did You Know? Social Norms Campaign) is designed to correct misperceptions about UAlbany students by providing members of the University community with accurate information about UAlbany students in the form of messages that are taken from annual student health surveys.
As misperceptions about students are common on every campus (including UAlbany), reporting the actual statistics about student behavior can help correct these misperceptions. For students who are exposed to the campaign messages (mostly in the form of posters), they will learn that healthy behaviors are the norm and will be able to make well informed decisions about their health.
The official campaign first began in 2006 as we were awarded a model’s grant by the U.S. Department of Education to fund the project.
