SUNYCard...use it everywhere you are!
Your SUNYCard provides access to residence halls, fitness centers, meal plan use, Munch Money / Podium use, library services and UAlbany bus services.
For your protection, SUNYCards can be used by owner only. Purchases made with SUNYCards or credit cards which exceed $25, require a second form of photo identification.
Obtaining a SUNYCard
Incoming Freshmen and Transfer Students: Receive their SUNYCard during their Orientation program. In order to obtain your card, you will need to provide an official form of photo identification (e.g. driver’s license or passport). There is no charge for the first card issued to you.
For all other students: Students must first be registered for the current semester in order to obtain a SUNYCard. Once registered, bring an official form of photo identification (e.g. driver’s license or passport) with you to the SUNYCard Office to receive your card. There is no charge for the first card issued to you.
University Employees: To obtain a SUNYCard, faculty and staff must be a currently active employee. At the start of employment, bring an official form of photo identification (e.g. driver’s license or passport) with you to the SUNYCard Office to receive your card. There is no charge for the first card you receive.
Lost, Stolen or Confiscated SUNYCards
It is the responsibility of the SUNYCard owner to ensure the security of their SUNYCard. A SUNYCard with an account balance (e.g. meal plan, munch money or podium account) should be treated like it is cash or a credit card and protected the same way. You will not be refunded for funds fraudulently used on your SUNYCard. A SUNYCard may also provide access into University buildings and should be kept secured to prohibit unauthorized access. The fee to replace a lost, stolen or confiscated card is $20.
Any department or organization that accepts your SUNYCard as a form of payment, verification or access to events or services has the right to confiscate your card if the card does not belong to the person using the card. Your SUNYCard is not transferable. Confiscated cards will not be returned to the original card holder.
If you find a SUNYCard, please turn it in to the SUNYCard Office, located in Campus Center B-52. If the office is closed, you may slide the card under the SUNYCard / Registrar’s Office door located on the west side (near the elevator).
Steps to replace a Lost, Stolen or Confiscated SUNYCard
- It is important that you immediately deactivate your card online You may also visit the SUNYCard office to deactivate your card during business hours; however, we suggest you immediately deactivate your card online.
- Go to the SUNYCard Office during business hours to receive a new card
- You will be charged $20 to replace a lost, stolen or confiscated card
*The $20 SUNYCard replacement fee will not be refunded in the event the
cardholder discovers their previously issued card after receiving a new card.
If the SUNYCard Office is closed, resident students can visit the University Police Department (UPD) to obtain a temporary card. Alumni Quad resident students can visit the Alumni Quad office to obtain a temporary card on evenings or weekends when the SUNYCard Office is closed. The temporary card will automatically become deactivated the next business day. The card holder will need to visit the SUNYCard office to replace their lost, stolen or confiscated card.
Damaged SUNYCards
The cardholder is responsible for protecting and preventing their SUNYCard from being damaged. There is a $20 charge to replace a card that is damaged (broken, cut chipped, scratched, etc.). If the card does not swipe successfully, the cardholder can bring their card to the SUNYCard office to be tested.
