SEFCU Banking Services for UAlbany Students

By KC Orcutt, UAS

SEFCU, a federal credit union, offers a full-service branch conveniently located in the Campus Center at the University at Albany, providing access to checking and savings accounts, loans, ATM/debit cards and insurance. Headquartered in Albany, SEFCU has 42 branches and nearly 100 ATMs across the Capital Region, Binghamton, Buffalo and Syracuse.

At the University at Albany, the entire campus community has access to the full-service branch, as well as to the 10 ATMs located throughout the university grounds.  SEFCU offers account services specifically designed for college students between the ages of 18 and 24. The Campus Connect account offers many free services to students including checking, ATM access, mobile banking, online banking and bill pay, as well as electronic account transfers from other financial institutions.

A benefit to the Campus Connect account for students is the ability to set up electronic account transfers from any other financial institution at no additional charge. The transfers can easily be conducted online, over the phone or in person at any SEFCU branch, as well as securely through an e-mail address or even a text message.

Another benefit to the SEFCU Campus Connect account is access to 10 ATMs on campus, over 70 ATMs in the Capital Region, including one in every Bruegger’s Bagel Bakery. Additionally, SEFCU also participates in the Allpoint® network of more than 40,000 ATMs worldwide, which provides members surcharge-free access to their accounts.

SEFCU is committed to educating members and non-members about the importance of being financially savvy by teaching individuals how to properly manage money. Throughout each semester, SEFCU offers free seminars providing tips on how to save, budget and manage credit. SEFCU also offers financial literacy programs available to custom fit the specific needs of your club, dorm or student group.

SEFCU was recently voted the “Best Bank/Credit Union” in the Capital Region for the fifth year in a row in the 2011's Readers’ Poll by the Albany Times Union.
