Munch Money is a declining balance account that is included with your meal plan. Munch Money purchases are not subject to NYS Sales Tax.

The Munch Money component of a meal plan is charged to the students' University tuition bill and can be used at all University dining locations, vending machines and Shop24.
Podium is a declining balance account that is available on your SUNYCard when you deposit funds into the account. Podium purchases are subject to NYS sales tax.

With Podium, you can make purchases at University dining locations, vending machines, Shop24, the University Bookstore, the Performing Arts Center, library copiers and printers and designated off campus retail locations.
Campus Gold is an advance up to $650 per semester and is typically utilized by students who are waiting for financial aid to arrive and are in need of purchasing such items as textbooks and supplies at the University Bookstore, items in vending machines and food/beverages at UAlbany Dining Locations.

Once registered for fall or spring classes, you can request Campus Gold by logging into your MyUAlbany account and following the instructions provided here. Registered Students can request funds for approximately four weeks before and two weeks after the start of each fall and spring semester.
When can it be used for vending machine purchases?
Munch Money can be used in vending machines 27 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Podium can be used in vending machines 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Campus Gold can be used in vending machines 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during the first four weeks of each semester.
Can it be used off campus?
No, Munch Money can only be used to make on campus food purchases.
Yes, Podium can be used at designated off campus retail locations.
During the first four weeks of each semester, Campus Gold can only be used on campus. If you elected to have any Campus Gold balance at the end of the first four weeks of the semester maintained in your Podium account, you will be able to use that Podium balance both on and off campus. Can I add more funds to this account?
Additional Munch Money funds can be purchased with a credit card by going to GET: SUNYCard Online Services via MyUAlbany or by visiting the SUNYCard Office and paying with cash, check or credit card.
Additional Podium funds can be purchased with a credit card by going to GET: SUNYCard Online Services via MyUAlbany or by visiting the SUNYCard office and paying with cash, check or credit card.
The maximum amount that can be requested is $650. All requests must be made within the first 10 days of Campus. You can add more funds up to the $650 maximum at anytime during the first 10 days of the semester.
Does the balance carry over?
Munch Money balance carries over from semester to semester for one full academic year (summer to spring) as long as you remain enrolled. Any Munch Money remaining at the end of the spring semester will be forfeited.
Your podium balance carries over from semester to semester as long as you are an enrolled student.
Campus Gold funds last for the first four weeks of each semester. Remaining balances will be transferred or refunded.
What about refunds?
If you are not enrolled for the following semester; any remaining balance will be forfeited.
If you are officially leaving the University, you can request a Podium refund through the SUNYCard Office. Your refund is subject to a $5 processing fee.
When you requested Campus Gold, you indicated how you would like your balance managed at the end of the fourth week of the fall and spring semester. If you made more than one request, the selection you made last will be applied to your entire balance. If you decided to have your Campus Gold balance refunded, it will removed from your SUNYCard and refunded to your Student Account. If you have paid your tuition bill in full, a refund check will be mailed to your home address. If you decided to have your balance maintained as Podium, it will be rolled into your Podium balance, and is subject to the the use and refund policies associated with Podium.
What do most students use?
All residential students have Munch Money as part of their meal plan, many students living in apartments or off campus also chose to use Munch Money for food purchases because of the tax advantage.
Most students have Podium in addition to Munch Money because Munch Money can only be used for food purchases. Some commuter students choose to have only Podium.
