2012 - 2013 Meal Plans Changes

Thank you to the 935 students who provided us with feedback regarding the 2012-2013 meal plans.  Your comments are invaluable to us. We heard you and we have responded with plans that we are confident will meet your needs. If you did not have a chance to comment during the meal plan selection process, we welcome your comments and suggestions at any time, please send them to us at uas@albany.edu.

CHANGES FOR 2012 - 2013
The price increase in meal plans is driven by government forecasts of future food and product prices, and by increases in Chartwells' labor and benefits costs (per the terms of their union contract with their employees). In order to keep the price increase as minimal as possible, the following changes will be made:

  • Colonial Quad and Dutch Quad will offer continental breakfasts Monday through Friday, in place of hot breakfasts (Hot breakfasts will be available at all other residential quad dining rooms and in the Commons Café for a Meal Trade)
  • The Saturday brunch at the Colonial Quad Dining Room will be eliminated (Saturday brunch will be available at all other residential quad dining rooms)

  • Meal Trades available with the Opportunity Plan will be reduced from three per day to one per day

RESIDENTIAL MEAL PLANS
Students told us that Meal Trades were important to them and that they wanted a plan that provided options between those offered by the Opportunity Plan and the Economy Plan.  The new Standard Plan offers 175 meals per semester, and students can choose whether they use the 175 swipes for meals or for Meal Trades.

APARTMENT MEAL PLANS
Students in our focus groups expressed a need for meal plans designed for students living in apartments. They suggested that 30 to 50 meals plus Munch Money would be a good fit for this population.
