Meal Plans

Meal plans include meals and or Munch Money on your SUNYCard and offer students the flexibility of eating meals at any residential dining room as well as other dining locations. If you have questions, please contact the SUNYCard Office at 518-442-5989, email UAS or stop in to see us on the lower level of the Campus Center, Room B52.

Meal plans include a combination of the following:

  • Meals in all-you-care-to-eat residential dining rooms
  • "Meal Trades" in Campus Center dining locations and late night take-out in residential dining locations during specified time periods
  • A declining balance account (Munch Money) that allows you to purchase meals, food and beverages in dining rooms, the Campus Center, the Downtown Cafe, or in vending machines, tax-free

Students Living in Traditional Quad Housing

Students Living in University Apartments and Commuter Students

  • Students living in the University Apartments and off campus may sign up for any meal plan.
  • Meal plans will not be automatically reassigned to students living in University Apartments or off campus, students will need to sign up for a plan at the beginning of each semester.
  • You can add a meal plan and have it charged to your student financial account prior to September 27, 2013.
  • You can purchase a meal plan after September 27, 2013 with cash, check or credit card, by visiting the SUNYCard office.
  • The last day to cancel a meal plan is Monday, September 9, 2013. To cancel a meal plan the student must visit the SUNYCard office located in Campus Center B52.
  • Plans for students living in University apartments and commuter students.

Returning Students

  • Returning Students living on Alumni, Colonial, Dutch, Indian or State Quad, who signed up for housing before the end of the previous semester, are automatically assigned the same meal plan they had the previous semester.
  • Returning Students living on Alumni, Colonial, Dutch, Indian or State Quad who did not sign up for housing for the following semester during housing sign-up, but decided at a later date to live in traditional housing, are assigned the appropriate default meal plan.
  • Students living in the University Apartments and off campus will need to sign up for a plan at the beginning of each semester.

Meal Plan Activation

  • Meal plans are active when residential halls open for occupancy as indicated in the Department of Res Life Residence Hall and Apartment License.
  • Meal plans end on the last day of exams each semester.

Meal Plan Policies

  • Munch Money balances that remain at the end of the fall semester will roll over to the spring semester for all enrolled students, but balences must be used up by the end of the spring semester.
  • Unused semester meal swipes do not carry over to the next semester.
  • Meal plans are billed to the student's account and may be covered by Financial Aid.
  • Meal plan charges and/or credits will be applied to the student's tuition bill within 7 business days after the student has added or changed their meal plan via their MyUAlbany account.
  • If a resident student living in traditional housing is unassigned from housing, the meal plan will be immediately removed and the Meal Plan Refund Policy applies.

Changing your Meal Plan

  • Changes can be made through the 10th business day after the start of each semester.
  • Students may request or change their fall semester meal plan until Monday, September 9, 2013 by using MyUAlbany or in person at the SUNYCard Office. Meal plans for the fall 2013 semester cannot be changed or canceled after Monday, September 9, 2013.
  • You can purchase a meal plan after September 9th at the SUNYCard Office, located in Campus Center B-52; the last day to purchase a meal plan and charge it to your tuition bill is September 27th.

 Upcoming Change to Munch Money

  • Beginning with the 2013-2014 school year, Munch Money will carry over from the summer to the fall and the fall to the spring semesters, but not to the following academic year.  Any Munch Money remaining at the end of the spring semester will be forfeited.
