Tim Hortons is Here!
UAlbany has unveiled the Campus Center Food Court’s newest addition: Tim Hortons. The popular Canadian eatery was chosen to replace the Corner Café, the previous Campus Center coffee shop. Tim Hortons’ success in Canada and continuous growth in New York State led to the chain’s selection from a group that included Dunkin Donuts.
Tim Hortons was also chosen because it has a more varied menu to better meet the needs of hungry students. The restaurant is independently licensed. Chartwells pays a franchising fee to operate it, and installed specialty ovens allowing food to be prepared on site in the Campus Center. This ensures that the items offered are fresh and meet the operational standard for quality.
Diana Delp, who personally selected the new décor for the area, chose a color scheme, chairs, furniture, flooring and booths to help make Tim Hortons inviting and attractive for students to study, relax, and socialize.
The new menu boasts a wide selection of breakfast and lunch items. The usual coffee shop items, such as coffee, donuts and muffins are present, but Tim Hortons also features cookies, bagels, hash browns, and Timbits. Timbits are small bite sized donuts similar to Munchkins at Dunkin’ Donuts. Tim Hortons also sells a variety of sandwiches and wraps to satisfy students looking for different meal options.
Tim Hortons opened on Sept. 27 and met with immediate success. Junior Elizabeth Coggins is one of many students who have embraced the new establishment. “I go there every morning before class for coffee,” she said. “The menu has been improved from the Corner Café - and I love their muffins.”
