ETEC Makes Progress Toward 2021 Opening

ALBANY, N.Y. (Nov. 5, 2020) – Construction at UAlbany’s $180 million ETEC complex is in full swing this semester.

Gov. Cuomo announced in 2016 that UAlbany would develop 12 neighboring acres on the Harriman Campus to build the 245,000-square-foot ETEC complex. The University broke ground on the site in 2018 and is on track to complete construction in summer 2021.

ETEC will be the future home of University’s first-in-the-nation College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity, Department of Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences, Atmospheric Sciences Research Center and the New York State Mesonet. There will be chemistry research labs, the Department of Environmental and Sustainable Engineering, and various business development and technology transfer offices inside as well.

The complex will have the capacity to house more than 200 full-time faculty and researchers, 100 research and industry partners, and as many as 800 students.

Construction crews are also working on a pedestrian path that connects the ETEC site to the rest of the University’s Uptown Campus. It will offer the campus community and guests an easy way to move between the two without driving once the complex opens.
