Experts in the News: COVID-19

ALBANY, N.Y. (March 20, 2020) – As we continue to see rising numbers of COVID-19 cases, local, national and international media outlets are turning to UAlbany faculty for expert insight from a number of different perspectives related to the virus.

Here’s a round-up of UAlbany faculty expertise in the news:

  • March 21: Theodore Wilson of the School of Criminal Justice offered insight to the Daily Beast about COVID-19's impact on the justice system
  • March 20: College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity Dean offered insight to the Pew Charitable Trusts on state and federal coronavirus response
  • March 20: School of Public Health Dean David Holtgrave spoke to WTEN - News Channel 10 on the effectiveness of social distancing
  • March 20: Jen Manganello of the School of Public Health wrote an op-ed for Scary Mommy on the challenges families with children who have disabilities face during COVID-19

  • March 18: Sam Penta of the College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity interviewed live on WCNY’s Capitol Pressroom about human behaviors and the importance of social distancing
  • March 18: Jennifer Manganello of the School of Public Health joined a podcast on Policy Viz about verifying information around COVID-19
  • March 17: David Turetsky of the College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity offered insight to the Times Union about cybersecurity challenges while people are working from home
  • March 17: Rukhsana Ahmed of the Department of Communication offered insight to Refinery29 about how to convince your parents to stay home
  • March 16: John Forsyth of the Department of Psychology spoke to the Washington Post about tips for emotional resilience during the COVID-19 crisis
  • March 15: Kajal Lahiri of the Department of Economics offered insight to U.S. News and World Report on the impact of COVID-19 to the New York State economy
  • March 14: Jennifer Weil Malatras of the Psychological Services Center wrote a blog post for Psychology Today about parenting in a pandemic
  • March 13: School of Public Health Dean David Holtgrave was live on WTEN – News Channel 10 to discuss the current state of COVID-19 in the Capital Region; he also spoke with WNYT - News Channel 13 (March 17) about the importance of social distancing
