Stormwater Coalition of Albany County
Municipalities in Albany County that are MS4’s (Municipal Separate Storm Systems), recognized the need and benefits of working together as a unit to manage stormwater, as many of the municipal stormwater systems interconnected with each other. In 2008, the Stormwater Coalition of Albany County formed with 12 members, and the University of Albany joined in 2009. The Stormwater Coalition is managed by a Board of Directors, comprised of representatives from each MS4. In order to facilitate communication among members, a working group was formed which offers a forum to collaborate and share information. The working group has representatives from each member and meets with Coalition staff monthly to discuss stormwater developments, management and technical issues in order to be compliant with Federal and State Permits and regulations. The Annual Report submitted to the DEC is prepared as a Joint Report by the Coalition.
Developing public participation and education programs is an important function of the Coalition that benefits the communities.
