That commitment is reflected in the variety of services and activities advanced by the Office of Recruitment, Retention, and Intercultural Relations and by academic departments. Working in concert with departmental faculty, the Special Assistant to the Associate Provost recruits students of talent and potential and strives to create environments conducive to students’ academic success.

Once enrolled at the University at Albany, students find varied programs to support their academic success. These programs, over the course of the academic year, include: a Welcoming Reception, to greet and salute new and continuing students is held in the early fall semester. A series of Brown Bag Luncheon Conversations each semester, address diverse topics of interest to graduate students. A Holiday Gala is held in December as a prelude to the final examination period. The End-of-the-Year Celebration in May is designed to celebrate the completion of the academic year and students’ upcoming graduation.

Students are also afforded rich opportunities to participate in speaker symposiums and to present their research at national, state, and local conferences. Assistantship and fellowship funding, available on a competitive and merit basis, also include tuition support.
