Dr. Betty P. Shadrick has held progressively responsible positions in educational institutions, community-based and state government agencies. Applying her skills in teaching, counseling, and administration, she has worked to advance the well-being of the underserved, economically improvised, and aspiring pre-K, elementary and secondary high school youth; and undergraduate and graduate students.
Currently, she is employed at University at Albany-State University of New York and is the director of the Office of Graduate Student Diversity. In this role, she manages the NSF (National Science Foundation) grant: Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP), the Carson Carr Graduate Diversity Scholar assistantship, the Graduate Tuition Opportunity Program (GTOP) and designs numerous student-focused activities to improve the recruitment, retention and graduation of graduate students and, in particular, graduate students from diverse cultural backgrounds. Regularly she teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in the School of Education and the Department of Africana Studies.
Her educational preparation includes B. S. -Elementary Education from Grambling State University, M.S. and CAS (Certificate of Advanced Standing) in Counseling Psychology and Ph.D. in Educational Administration and Policy Studies from the University at Albany, SUNY. She is cited in Who's Who in American, Outstanding Women of the 21st Century, and is a recipient of the New York State Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Professional Service.
