How to Apply

Students Transferring to UAlbany

Apply for Admission to UAlbany

Financial Aid will only process federal financial aid for students admitted into a degree program.  In order to be considered for assistance administered by the University, all information required by the appropriate admissions office should be submitted on a timely basis.

Add federal school code
002835
to your
FAFSA

If you haven't filed a FAFSA yet, you can complete your FAFSA on-line at:

www.fafsa.ed.gov

If you filed your FAFSA but did not initially list UAlbany in the school code section, you will need to add 002835 to the school code section.  Go to FAFSA "Follow-up - Make Corrections to a Processed FAFSA" at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Undergraduate to Graduate FAFSA changes

Students who change from undergraduate academic status to Graduate academic status need to correct two items on the FAFSA.

Answer "Yes" to "Grad Student" and "Yes" to "Received First Bachelor Degree".

List UAlbany's TAP School code for your entry term and year.

0895 - Undergraduate
5390 - Graduate

New York State residents receiving TAP will need to change their TAP school code for your entry term and year.

You can submit a change TAP form change through NYSHESC's website at web.hesc.org

Fall Award Notices Start
March 15th

Sprind Award Notices Start
December 15th

Starting March 15, the Office of Financial Aid will begin sending financial aid award notices to students accepted for the Fall term.  Award notices for students accepted for the Spring term will start mailing December 15th.

Awards are made on a rolling basis throughout the year as students financial aid files are completed.

Shortly after receiving your award notice, Financial Aid will send a Self-Service Instruction Letter that explains how to use MyUAlbany to accept your financial aid award.

Complete Your Stafford Entrance Interview Counseling
And
Electronic Master Promissory Note (eMPN)

If you accept an offer of a Stafford Loan, you will need to complete a Stafford Entrance Counseling session.  All first time UAlbany Stafford Loan Borrowers must complete Stafford Entrance Counseling.  The processing of your Stafford loan stops until UAlbany receives notification from Mapping-Your-Future you completed your Entrance Counseling.

You can complete your Stafford Entrance Counseling Interview on-line at: Mapping-Your-Future.

If you have no history of Stafford Loan borrowing, then you must also complete the Stafford Electronic Master Promissory Note (eMPN).  You can complete an eMPN on-line at www.hesc.com.

Apply for Federal Parent Plus Loan

Parents apply for the Parent Plus Loan at UAlbany through the UAlbany PLUS Data Form.

Apply for Alternative Loans

Students who previously had Alternative Loans before attending UAlbany will need to contact their lender to advise them of your transfer to UAlbany. Typically, lenders will require borrowers to submit a new application when students transfer to a new school.
