Freshmen Exceptions to Income Guidelines


1. The student's family is the recipient of Family Assistance or Safety Net payments through the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance or through a county Department of Social Services; or of Family Day Care payments through the New York State Office of Children and Family Assistance or a county Department of Social Services.

2. The student lives with foster parents who do not provide support for college and the student's natural parents provide no such support.

3. The student is a ward of the state or county.

Income includes all taxable funds received by the household for general use. Funds may come from sources such as wages, dividends, interest, social security, disability pensions, veteran's benefits and unemployment benefits.

The following does not constitute income: Funds received for educational purposes from sources such as social security, veteran's cost of educational benefits, and educational grants from the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation; Social Services or Public Assistance payments received through Aid For Dependent Children, Home Relief or Family Day Care Programs.
