Professional Interests

Jacob’s research areas of interest include: mental health and wellbeing using a minority stress framework, atheist/nonreligious identity, multicultural competence, and grief and bereavement. Clinical areas of interest include: depression, anxiety, adjustment difficulties (particularly with first-generation college students), stigma/marginalization, and grief and bereavement.

Approach to Therapy

Jacob believes that mental health is impacted by both personal and environmental factors. Jacob’s primary approach to therapy is from a psychodynamic orientation, and is strongly informed by multicultural and feminist theory.

Approach to Wellness

Jacob attempts to find a healthy balance between work and leisure. Outside of teaching, research, and therapy, Jacob enjoys watching baseball, playing golf, and spending time with friends and family.
