ALBANY, N.Y. (Feb. 4, 2020) – The music and landscapes of Iceland will take center stage Thursday as Nordic Affect — an ensemble featuring violinist Halla Steinunn Stefánsdóttir, violist Marie Stockmarr Becker, cellist Hanna Loftsdóttir and harpsichordist Guðrún Óskarsdóttir — will perform works by contemporary Icelandic composers, primarily women.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center, and a pre-performance program of music videos by the ensemble will be presented beginning at 7 p.m. The videos were commissioned to accompany the piece "Händelusive" by composer Hugi Gudmundsson, and recorded in New York in 2012 as part of a larger project photographing, recording and documenting the city through still images, video and sound.

Earlier in the day, the four musicians will meet with about 75 students during visits to two classes: Music Appreciation and a Music Majors Seminar.

Nordic Affect was formed by a group of period instrument musicians united in their passion for viewing familiar musical forms from different perspectives and for daring to venture into new musical terrain. Nordic Affect has established collaborative relationships with composers, visual artists and producers through the years, commissioning new works to perform along with music from 17th and 18th centuries.

The works chosen for Thursday’s concert include vocals and visual elements, and reflect ensemble’s love of ecology.

Advance tickets are $15 for the general public and $10 for students, seniors and UAlbany faculty-staff. Tickets purchased on the day of the show are $20 and $15. For reservations and further information, contact the Box Office at (518) 442-3997 or visit the Performing Arts Center website.
